Govt to establish 10,000 e-employment centers for freelancers
Minister highlights challenges faced by 1.5 million Pakistani freelancers
Dr. Umar Saif, the Caretaker Federal Minister of Information Technology, has announced a new plan to provide interest-free loans to the private sector.
The objective of this initiative is to establish 10,000 e-employment centers throughout the country. In a video message, Dr. Saif emphasized the challenges faced by the 1.5 million Pakistani youths who are engaged in online freelancing. These individuals often struggle due to the lack of proper working spaces.
Many freelancers earn modestly, around $10 to $20 a day, and find it difficult to afford essential work equipment such as generators or laptops, let alone cover office rent. To address these difficulties, the government aims to establish dedicated e-employment centers that cater specifically to the needs of freelancers.
Dr. Saif further explained that the government plans to provide interest-free loans to the private sector, encouraging the conversion of real estate into these specialized centers. These centers will serve as hubs for freelance work and will be able to accommodate up to 100 individuals each. The initiative aims to create job opportunities for approximately one million freelancers across the nation.
Dr. Saif estimated that, with the government's support, freelancers could collectively generate an annual income of around $10 billion. This move is part of Dr. Umar Saif's ongoing efforts to facilitate freelancers, which also include a recent agreement with 'PayPal' for money transactions. These initiatives are expected to further empower the freelance community in Pakistan.
