Good news! Pakistani freelancers can now receive payments via PayPal
Minister says that Pakistani freelancers need not open a PayPal account to receive payments via the online platform
In a positive development for the growing freelance market in Pakistan, freelancers in the country will now have the option to receive their payments through PayPal, an online payment and money transfer platform.
The availability of PayPal, which allows users to send and receive money in 25 currencies across more than 200 countries, will greatly enhance Pakistan's untapped freelance market and facilitate ease of business in various fields.
Caretaker Minister for Information and Technology, Dr Umar Saif, highlighted the absence of popular online payment platforms in Pakistan and acknowledged the long-standing demand for PayPal by freelancers in the country.
Under the newly devised program, freelancers will not be required to open a PayPal account. Instead, individuals outside the country will make payments from their PayPal accounts, and the funds will be promptly deposited into the freelancers' accounts.
Dr Saif also mentioned the approval of Pakistan's first space policy by the federal cabinet, which allows international companies to provide communication services through low-orbit communication satellites.
He emphasized that satellite communication technology is rapidly advancing, and many private companies worldwide are interested in offering communication services through low-orbit satellites. Unlike geostationary satellites, which are far from the land and primarily used for broadcasting TV signals, low-orbit satellites are closer and enable more efficient communication with lower latency.
Dr Saif further highlighted the significant developments in the private sector regarding communication services through low-orbit satellites. This technology now makes it possible for communication services in Pakistan to be provided through satellites, and the private sector possesses the necessary expertise.
The minister emphasized the importance of the National Space Agency in facilitating these advancements and ensuring the successful implementation of satellite-based communication services in Pakistan.
