Most polled readers don't mind the feature, as long as they don't have to pay extra
Satellite connectivity seems to be the latest feature set to hit smartphones. T-Mobile recently announced a partnership with SpaceX, Google confirmed support in Android 14, and Apple is expected to offer a wide range of functionality. This technology can go some way to ensure no more dead zones.
But is this just another overhyped feature or worth the wait? We inquired with Android Authority readers regarding their interest in satellite connectivity on their mobile devices, and this is the feedback we received.

The poll received just over 1,900 votes after it was posted on September 2. And it turns out that the most popular option was “I don't mind, as long as I don't pay extra,” with 52.76% of the vote. According to the respondents, they had satellite coverage, telephone, and telephone.
We can understand this stance, as satellite coverage for phones is currently limited to texting and emergency services. Most people also live in areas with cellular coverage, so paying extra for fallback service doesn't make sense unless you spend a lot of time in dead zones (like mountains, offshore locations, national parks, etc.).
Meanwhile, 26.8 percent of respondents said they care about the functionality and really need it. Presumably, these respondents live in dead zone areas or frequently visit areas with poor coverage.
In third place was "No, I'm happy with my coverage," with 13.82 percent of the vote. Finally, 6.62 percent of poll readers simply said they were indifferent to satellite connectivity. In other words, cellular connectivity currently looks pretty good for these users, especially compared to the current state of satellite coverage for phones.

- Gen2CamaroZ28:Living at my
parents' house, we have to use antenna boosters for our phones just to get one
bar. It would be a relief to have reliable coverage in case of emergencies.
Additionally, there are still areas where I spend a lot of time that lack
coverage, so having reliable service there would be a game changer. I've become
accustomed to not having phone access due to the poor coverage in most rural
areas. I can't even stay on phone calls while driving through Michigan or
Kentucky, even on highways. When we go camping, we never have coverage. During
our last trip, we had a tire blowout and I had to walk a mile and knock on a
stranger's door just to get help. It was a frightening experience, and I had to
leave my wife and kids back in the car.

- Mark McCoskey: Cristiano Amon just mentioned satellite connectivity in his IFA 2022 Keynote speech concerning Snapdragon Connectivity. It’s coming.
