ISLAMABAD:

A local court in Islamabad issued an order on Monday, 30 jun 2025, to block 27 YouTube channels for allegedly ‘propagating disinformation and false narratives regarding state institutions,’ as per a statement received from the court on Tuesday.

Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah prepared and signed a two-page order decision immediately after a hearing on a petition filed by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The court accepted the grievance brought forward by the agency as having sufficient evidence.

The NCCIA started looking into this matter, constituting an offense from June 2, 2025, with the permission of the appropriate authority.

On June 24,2025, Waseem Khan, a Sub-Inspector working for the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre of NCCIA, told the Court that his agency was working with some YouTube channels alleged to be spreading ‘false, defamatory, and fake’ content with the intent of embarrassing state institutions and officers.

He pointed out that the content in question was being disseminated amongst the public and could provoke fear, panic, chaos, or unrest in strife in society, and was laced with highly threatening, provocative, and derogatory statements.
