PTCL has announced the installation of ConnectHear's Sign Language accessibility solution in their customer centers powered by AI.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), the nation's top telecommunications and ICT services provider, is teaming up with ConnectHear, a pioneering Pakistani accessibility technology firm, to launch its AI-driven sign language agent across PTCL's customer care centers starting from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

It is part of PTCL's efforts to improve its customer experience, making it inclusive and accessible to customers of all abilities. Through SILA, Deaf customers can communicate their queries and requirements in sign language and engage directly with customer service representatives, without relying on a human interpreter. This follows on from ConnectHear's collaboration with PTCL to promote access by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

Amad Khan, Chief Marketing Officer PTCL, commented on the partnership, saying: “Our partnership with ConnectHear has been a positive one to date – it has helped us introduce the concept of accessibility into our customer facing operations and trained them to recognise the needs of Deaf customers, assisting them to communicate with us in an appropriate manner. However, we are now taking the partnership to another level, where we are utilising technology to overcome some of the major accessibility barriers faced by Deaf people to ensure that every customer can communicate with us in an appropriate way with dignity and independence.

Our collaboration with PTCL demonstrates the power of ongoing technology-driven efforts and we are delighted to partner with ConnectHear to bring sign language accessibility directly to customer service, said Azima Dhanjee, CEO and Co-founder, ConnectHear, "We are proud to work with PTCL and to support the journey towards a more accessible Pakistan for everyone, every day, and everywhere.”

This partnership has already resulted in transformative solutions for the Deaf community such as SUNO, an AI-based early warning system that provided early warnings in Pakistani Sign Language via WhatsApp and helped protect the Deaf community during natural and man-made catastrophes. The partnership is part of PTCL's and ConnectHear's vision that technology is a one of the biggest equalizers and a strong enabler of equitable growth and development.
