Write five sentences explaining your choice. Use the words although, however, but, yet, and nevertheless to show the contrasts between the two platforms. (10)

Answer:

  • Although Platform A has many free courses, I prefer Platform B because its lessons are more interactive.
  • Platform A is popular; however, Platform B provides better support for students.
  • Platform B is a little expensive, but it offers high-quality study materials.
  • Platform A has a simple design, yet Platform B is easier to use for online classes.
  • Platform B requires a strong internet connection; nevertheless, I would choose it because it has excellent video lectures.

Q.3 Write an essay of 250–300 words expressing your opinion on one of the following topics. Support your ideas with examples and reasons. (10)

i. Should social media be used in classrooms to support learning, or does it distract students?

Answer:
Should Social Media Be Used in Classrooms?
Social media has become an important part of modern life, especially for students. Many schools and teachers are now using social media platforms to support education. In my opinion, social media should be used in classrooms because it can improve learning when used in a proper and controlled way.
One major advantage of social media is that it makes learning more interactive and interesting. Teachers can share educational videos, notes, quizzes, and assignments online. Students can also discuss topics with classmates and ask questions easily. For example, a teacher can create a class group where students share ideas and study materials. This helps students learn even outside the classroom.
Another benefit is that social media improves communication skills and teamwork. Students can work together on projects and exchange information quickly. Educational platforms such as YouTube and Google Classroom provide useful lessons that help students understand difficult topics more clearly.
However, some people believe that social media distracts students from their studies. Students may spend too much time chatting, playing games, or watching entertainment videos. This can reduce their concentration and waste valuable study time. Therefore, teachers and parents should guide students on how to use social media responsibly.
In conclusion, social media can be a valuable educational tool if it is used wisely. It helps students learn in a modern and engaging way while also improving communication and collaboration. With proper supervision, the benefits of social media in classrooms are greater than its disadvantages.

ii. Is Reading Books More Beneficial for Students Than Watching Television or Online Videos?
In my opinion, reading books is more beneficial for students than watching television or online videos. Although educational videos can be helpful, books offer deeper learning and help students develop important skills.
Firstly, reading books improves vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills. When students read regularly, they learn new words and sentence structures, which help them communicate effectively. Books also improve concentration and critical thinking because readers need to focus on the text and understand its meaning.
Secondly, books encourage imagination and creativity. While reading a story, students create pictures and scenes in their minds. This process develops their thinking abilities and makes learning more enjoyable. In contrast, television and online videos provide ready-made images, giving students less opportunity to use their imagination.
Moreover, reading books is usually less distracting than watching online content. Many online videos contain advertisements or links that can divert students’ attention. Spending too much time watching screens may also affect students’ eyesight and reduce physical activity.
However, educational videos also have some advantages. They can explain difficult concepts through animations and demonstrations, especially in subjects like science and mathematics. Therefore, videos can be a useful supplement to learning.
In conclusion, both books and educational videos play an important role in education. However, I believe that reading books is more beneficial because it enhances language skills, improves concentration, and develops imagination and critical thinking. Therefore, students should make reading a regular habit and use videos only as a supporting learning tool.
