The federal government on Tuesday approved the promotion of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal, recognizing his exceptional leadership and strategic capabilities during Operation Baniam Marso, which resulted in a decisive defeat to the enemy while protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty.

The Federal Cabinet, which met under Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif's chairmanship, lauded the operation as a monumental success in the nation's history. According to a PM Office press release, the Armed Forces were lauded for their coordinated and courageous response to Indian aggression on the nights of May 6 and 7, 2025.

The Cabinet also decided to retain the service of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu upon completion of his tenure, recognizing his significant contributions to Pakistan's air defense.

The meeting recalled that India had launched a baseless and unjust war targeting civilian areas, causing casualties among innocent men, women, and children.

In response, General Asim Munir led the Pakistan Army with outstanding courage and determination, effectively uniting the armed forces under a single strategic command.

"His exemplary leadership and coordination on the battlefield were decisive in changing the course of events and securing a historic victory for Pakistan, now known as Marka-e-Haq.

" The federal cabinet noted that the enemy's attempts to violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan were repulsed with full force, commending the courageous military leadership of General Asim Munir for the successful defense of the homeland.
